The Kurds in Post-Saddam Iraq
Kenneth Katzman | Congressional Research Service | 2009-06-04
This June 2009 report by the Congressional Research Service examines friction between Iraqi Kurds and others in the region, including Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and other Arab leaders of Iraq. Citing some observers who predict that disputes could erupt into all out violence between Kurdish militias and Iraq’s central government forces, the report’s summary states that many Kurds believe the drawdown of U.S. forces in Iraq "will reduce the U.S. political influence over the Kurds and the central government that is needed to contain these disputes."
