Trans-Balkan Pipeline Projects Compete for Caspian Oil

Russia, Greece and Bulgaria signed an agreement for the construction of a Bourgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline on Sept. 4, and a rival Albania-Macedonia-Bulgaria pipeline is on the drawing board.

Albania Hires Tom Ridge to Boost NATO Bid

Since the collapse of Albania's communist regime in 1991, several governments have tried desperately to integrate the country into the European Union and NATO. Suffering one of the most difficult transitions in the eastern block, followed by a serious image problem, the endeavor has not been easy.
